Whoa - Accidental Fractal..."ish"

Thu, 03/01/2018 - 19:57

I was attempting to add a cracked windshield to the player tank in my Battlezone remake built in Javascript. I wanted to built the crack procedurally and it's "working". But it's not very believable as a cracked windshield just yet. I was able to add a pretty cool effect that shakes the screen but, the cracked windshield currently either resembles fractured rock or in many cases modern art.

Experimenting with Inkscape

Sun, 02/25/2018 - 16:18

Open source programs can be very good or ... not so good. But it's free. So there's not much point in complaining.

This one so far is quite good. I read complaints that Inkscape can be slow and I imagine with larger projects this may be true but, so far. It seems to work quite well. The interface is easy to understand and the program seems to work well.

In just about an hour of tutorials I was able to reproduce this old image I drew in Flash some 10 years ago using Inkscape.

The new image is an SVG so, that's cool.

Homepage Animation Block For Drupal 8

Wed, 02/21/2018 - 12:18

Many websites have an animation of some kind running on the homepage. My website is no exception however, I like to experiment with different animations and such and I am sure I will want to regularly swap them out. I could simply dump in a new file whenever I want to make a change but, I like to design things that are a little more elegant. Something that might be used by other people in the real world. So, I built this simple module.

Some 3D Models from Early to Mid-2000's Built in Anim8or

Jeremy Heminger in Space Suit Modeled in Anim8or

For several years in the early to mid-2000's I was very interested in 3D modelling. I generally used a free program called Anim8or however I did eventually move on to Blender...I still tend to use Anim8or because it's just really simple.

The disappointing thing about these images is that they are all low-resolution. I lost a ton of working files from this era.

Lake Perris Recreational Area

lake perris

Surrounding Lake Perris in Southern California near Moreno Valley there are a number of trails that are not exactly fun but, there are a few hills that are challenging and the scenery is rather nice if you enjoy wide open spaces. Often I will ride the various trails until I am nearly exhausted. Then I will ride downhill to the lake. There are restrooms with water fountains. The water is clean and surprisingly cold. Great for refilling your water bottle or camel backpack. After refilling I have on hot summer days taken a dip in the lake.

Some Old 3D Animation I Built With Anim8or

Mon, 01/15/2018 - 18:59

This stuff used to be so much fun to build...1. I wish I still had all the stuff I built. 2. I wish I was still inspired to do this stuff...Now I sit down, start to do some modeling and in a few minutes I find myself coding or watching a YouTube video...It just doesn't hold my interest as much anymore. This was back in 2008 - 2010 ... ish.

Meh...Maybe some day soon I'll get inspired.
